Shoplifting aluminum foil is easy, but a new article from The Next Wires lays out some basic guidelines for making the purchase.
The article, titled “Aluminum foil and shoplifting,” describes the steps required for a shoplifting offense, including the amount of money needed to buy the item, the type of item stolen, and the type or amount of clothing or jewelry that is being stolen.
“It is the most basic of the shoplifting crimes,” it reads.
“You can’t make the purchase in cash.
There are multiple ways to get the items and you cannot simply buy them by taking them.
It’s also illegal to make the sale while being under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any other intoxicating substance.”
There are a few things that need to be in place for the theft to go undetected, the article continues.
For starters, the person stealing the item must be able to get into the store and be able find the merchandise, so there needs to be surveillance cameras around the store.
The person can also have to have an identification that shows that they have the item in their possession.
If the theft is caught on tape, the video will be aired to the public.
If it’s not caught on camera, the shoplifter can be charged with shoplifting and arrested.
The act of stealing the items can also take place in the parking lot or on a street corner, the Next Wiring article states.
There’s a possibility of an arrest and a $50 fine.
But if the shoplifter is caught, the store will lose their business and could lose the items.
“You can never just get it from the parking meter,” said David C. DeBord, a retired assistant U.S. attorney who worked in Los Angeles County for 20 years.
“It’s going to be something you have to know is happening and it’s going be something that’s going on.
You have to do something.
There has to be some type of surveillance, something that the public is aware of, that is happening.”
DeBord said shoplifting is one of the most dangerous crimes, but there are ways to protect yourself.
“The best defense is the best offense,” he said.
“If the person does the right thing and the crime doesn’t happen, they could lose their life.”
